Let’s dive into the upcoming NHS changes effective from April 2025, and how they may affect you.

NHS Fee Uplift 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

NHS England sites will see an NHS Fee Uplift effective from April 1st 2025. As always, Dentally will handle updates automatically, so there is no action required on your part. You will automatically see the new fees appear on courses of treatment started on or after April 1st.

Tax Credit benefit ending 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

From 6th April 2025, the Tax Credit exemption for NHS dental treatment will no longer be valid for NHS practices across England, Wales and Scotland. Please note:

  • Patients previously exempt via Tax Credit will become chargeable unless another form of exemption is provided.
  • Treatment plans started before 6th April 2025 will maintain the exemption until completion.

Dentally will reflect this change automatically after 5th April 2025. For more information head over to the NHS website.

New patient referral codes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The Welsh Government has introduced new patient referral methods through the Dental Access Portal (DAP). This update will affect three types of patients:

  • DAP New Patient: Patients triaged from the DAP.
  • New Urgent Patient: Urgent referrals from Health Boards/NHS 111.
  • New Urgent Patient FTA: Urgent referrals where the patient failed to attend the appointment.

Going forward you will see an option on the Welsh NHS claim submission screen to select if the patient is either a 'DAP New Patient' or 'Referred for Urgent treatment'.

To submit a claim for a ‘Referred Urgent Patient FTA’ you will be required to open a new course of treatment and chart a specific treatment code (9187 - Referred Urgent Patient - Did not attend).

This allows you to submit a claim where no completed treatment has been charted. Read more about how these updates will work in Dentally over on our Help Centre or head over to the NHS website for further information.
